Lymph Loves Calves (Our Second Heart)

Here’s something not everyone knows: your calves are a major player in lymphatic flow. In fact, they’re often called your “second heart.” That’s because every time your calf muscles contract — when you walk, stand on your toes, or even flex your feet — you’re helping push lymph and blood back up toward the heart. It’s especially important if you sit or stand for long periods during the day.
If your legs often feel heavy, puffy, or tired, it could be your lymph telling you it needs a little love. Try taking breaks during the day to do ankle rolls, march on the spot, or stand up and do a few calf raises. Even better, elevate your legs at the end of the day and do a few deep breaths — your lymphatic system will thank you!
During your lymphatic drainage treatments, I spend extra time on the lower legs and feet, stimulating this powerful pump to help your whole system flow better. But your calves work best when they’re used daily, so keep them moving!
